Dameon's Price Is Right Experience

When My parents told me we was going to Los Angeles for a vacation. I would have the chance to do something that I've waited to do since I was 5 years old. I would get to go see The Price Is Right in person. I was so excited, I sent for 6 tickets for a taping of the May 23rd, 2005 1:15p.m. taping. To make sure I would get the tickets, I sent for them on the third week of January 2005. I received the tickets in the mail 6 weeks before the day of taping, which was in April. That's when I started the countdown before My Mom, Dad, and I left out for Los Angeles. Not only would this be my first trip to cali, but it also would be my first time flying on a plane. I was scared at first, we flew out Saturday morning from Louisville to Atlanta, then from Atlanta to L.A. It was an awesome flight (we flew on a Delta, awesome service), but when we flew out from Louisville, I thought taking off was going to be like being on a roller coaster, so I took a newspaper and held it over my head and had my eyes closed. My Mom and Dad told me to relax, so I did. I brought my dvd player with me to help me stay calm and keep my mind off of how high up in the air the plane was. I did looked out the window to see the Grand Canyon (I always wanted to go camping there). Sorry about rambling on...Monday May 23rd finaly arrived, My Mom, Dad, their friend & son, and I went to CBS, we didn't arrive till after 9:45a.m. at that time the prority numbers were already given out, so we were given standby numbers. At that point I was worried that we weren't going to get in. We were told to leave studio to park our car at the Grove shopping center. After parking the car, we had 20 minutes left to walk around the studio and see farmers market, then it was time to head back to CBS and hope for a miracle to happen, and it did. By the grace of God we got numbers to get into the studio. When the pages told us that the processing is about to take place, we sat on covered benches. There our I.D.'s were checked, and we received handwritten nametags. When one of the pages handed me my nametag with my name on it, I had my game face on and I was ready to play. As the processing went on and after the pages went over the general rules for contestant eligibility, then it was time for the brief interview by the production staff, that's how the contestants are selected. They look for a complete cross section (tall, short, fat, thin, young, old, male, female, white, black, etc. know one knows that they are going to be picked until the annoucer calls their name, that is why they are excited when they hear their name called). During the interview, one of the producers would ask you questions about who you are, where you're from, what you like about the show, etc. After the interviewing process and going through security, it was time to enter the Bob Barker Studio. When I got inside, my first reaction was that the set is really small. It looks huge on television. Since my Mom, Dad, their friend & her son, and I were they only ones in our party, I kept thinking we was going to get bad seats, but boy was I wrong, another miracle happened, we got seats in front right behind the seats where the winning contestants sit, on the right side, if you were watching television. Soon after Rich fields came out and did the warm up. During his warm up he asked for volunteers in the audience to come up on stage to dance and jump up and down. I raised my hand and he picked me along with 10 other people in the audience. I jumped up from my seat ran down the aisle high fiving everyone, stopped in contestants row, I said $1 Bob and jumped up and down ran up the stairs and I started jumping up and down, dancing, and running all over that stage, I was like a kid at Christmas time. They didn't get that part on tape, although I am sure they did for the show's own records. I was up there on stage. Rich was very funny and pumped the crowd up after a long wait outside in line. Soon after, it was time. The music came on and Rich started the inro. If you have never been Price, it is extremely loud when everyone is cheering and screeming. The first four contestants cannot even hear their names being called. Signs are held up on stage to tell the audience who is announced to "Come on Down!" The first person chosen was a girl named Emily wearing a grey Fordham hooded sweatshirt, she was sitting right behind me. Not only that she was the last person in her group to be interviewed by the producers, because I was the first person in my group to be interviewed by the producers. That's how close I came to being chosen. I thought Rich did say my name at first, I was busy looking at my self on the monitor to pay attention to what was going on. All in all it was an awesome show that day, all six games were won, one girl won $16,000, one guy won a car in One Away (after getting all 5 numbers right the first time), and Emily won a trip, $1,000 on the wheel and the showcase for the day, she won over $30,000 worth of prizes and cash. Seeing Bob, Rich, and Barker's Beauties (They are hot, NOD, NOD, NOD) was NOD, NOD, NOD, Dynomite!!!! It was one great trip I will definitely make again. If you ever get a chance to go to Los Angeles, make sure you send for tickets to see a taping of The Price Is Right. Go to www.cbs.com click on daytime, click on the price is right and click on the words come on down its that easy. NOD, NOD, NOD. (This show aired on Thursday, May 26, 2005, yes I did taped the show, and I do still have it on tape, if anyone wants to see me in the audience, jumping up and down like a goofball, NOD, NOD, NOD)
